History Page

Welcome to my history page. I have listed my family names below and you can click on the name you are interested in to view the stories and history of how they came to this country and the hardships they suffered coming across the plains and sailing by ships. There is history in general about the Oregon trail and the pioneers that crossed. The Arant and Blake families were among those first pioneers to cross the Oregon trail. Also included is some history of the Crater Lake National park, as William Franklin Arant was appointed as the first superintendent to the park in 1902.

The Arant and the Blake families were farmers and ranchers who were among the first settlers to the pioneer west. The Arant and Blake families are from the maternal side of my family. The Arant origins are of German decent, and the Blake origins are of English decent. I have traced back the Arant family thirteen generations, to 1683. The Blake family I have traced back ten generations, from 1805.

On my fathers side of the tree we have the Stott and Elliott families. I am still gathering information on these families. I currently trace back to 1856 to Edmore Michigan. There was a huge fire in Edmore Michigan prior to 1856 that destroyed some of the early records of births, deaths etc. The origins of these families are English and Scottish. Can also get information on the Elliott Clan through membership of the Elliott Clan Society.

Ciupryk is my married name and husbands family. Other names in this family include Malaczynski, Karolick and Szpakowska, whose origins are Poland, Austria, Ukraine. Cities include Galicia, Bytom, Berezowka, and Turnopol. My husband is second generation to be born in United States. Any information would be helpful in researching these families. It is difficult to get information from Poland.

Buchanan and Christian are family names of my son-in-law in which we are also researching and have a lot of history. James Buchanan was listed as a member in the Shaker Society of South Union in 1854, he was then listed in 1855 as being promoted to Deacon of the North Family, a respected position in the Shaker society. He is listed numerous times in the registry and daily journals, along with several other suspected related Buchanan's (possibly bothers and sisters). To learn more about him and the Shaker society click on the Buchanan family name above. There are misc. journal entries and records from the years 1854, 1855, 1861, 1862, 1864, 1866 and 1869.
